Red Sox 8, Yankees 4 (0-1)
The Yankees got off to a pedestrian start in defense of their World Series title. The Red Sox doubled them up and it was Red Ruffing who bore the brunt of the damage. He gave up seven of the eight runs the Red Sox scored in just 5 1/3 innings.
Myril Hoag went two for four with a double and two RBIs. Bill Dickey had a solid game as well and he went two for three with a double and a run.
