June 3, 1958 at Yankee Stadium
Yankees 13, White Sox 0 (29-10)
For the second straight game, a Yankee starter hurled a shutout and this time it was Johnny Kucks who got it done with a two hitter. He walked three and struck out two and the win pushed his record to 4-1.
Mickey Mantle, Bill Skowron and Yogi Berra all went yard in this one. Tony Kubek, Mantle and Gil McDougald all drove in three runs in the blowout while Hank Bauer and Mantle scored three runs each.
April 30, 1958 at Yankee Stadium
Tigers 10, Yankees 1 (9-4)
The Yankees suffered their worst defeat of the season as Whitey Ford was lit up by the Tigers’ hitters. Ford fell to 1-2 and he gave up seven runs (five earned) on twelve hits and three walks with two strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Ford doubled and he scored the only run of the game. Bill Skowron and Gil McDougald were the only two Yankees hitters with more then one hit.
April 29, 1958 at Yankee Stadium
Yankees 5, Tigers 1 (9-3)
The Yankees got another solid outing from their starter as Bobby Shantz held the Tigers to a single run on six hits. He improved to 2-0 and he gave up a walk with seven strikeouts.
Moose Skowron had a big day at the plate. He was a perfect three for three with a walk, two homers and three RBIs. Yogi Berra pitched in with a solo homer, his second long ball of the season.
April 25, 1958 at Griffith Stadium
Senators 2, Yankees 1 (7-3)
The Yankees lost back to back games for the first time this season as Whitey Ford pitched a gem, it was just through eight innings. He had a four hit shutout going before getting giving up a walk and a double after an error to lose it in the ninth. The loss dropped Ford to 1-1 on the season.
Mickey Mantle doubled twice and he scored the lone Yankee run. Bill Skowron doubled twice and drove in Mantle in the first frame.
April 21, 1978 at Yankee Stadium
Yankees 4, Red Sox 1 (6-1)
Don Larsen not only got it done on the mound but also at the plate as the Yankees continued their impressive start to the season. Larsen improved to 2-0 and he gave up seven runs on three hits with eight strikeouts in five innings. He also belted a two run homer that turned out to be the difference in the win.
Hank Bauer also went yard in the game. Bill Skowron went two for four and he drove in a run.
April 18, 1958 at Yankee Stadium
Yankees 3, Orioles 1 (3-1)
The Yankees won their home opener as they dispatched the Orioles with another solid outing from their starting pitcher. This time it was Whitey Ford who got it done. He gave up just a single run on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts in the complete game win.
Moose Skowron went three for four with a double, a run and an RBI to lead the Yankees at the plate. Mickey Mantle was a perfect two for two with two walks and two runs.
