Yankees Split Doubleheader With Tigers

July 3, 1977 at Yankee Stadium
Yankees 2, Tigers 0  (44-34)

Ron Guidry threw his second shutout of the season as he held the Tigers to six hits.  He gave up just two walks and he struck out nine and the win pushed his record to 6-4 on the season.

Reggie Jackson went three for four with a double and a run.  Bucky Dent singled twice and Roy White doubled and drove in a run.

Tigers 10, Yankees 6  (44-35)

Dick Tidrow gave up five runs in the final two frames as the Yankees lost their chance at a doubleheader sweep.  The loss dropped Tidrow’s record to 6-3 on the season and he finished the game with three homeruns given up in his four innings of work.

Lou Piniella went three for five with two RBIs and a run.  Fran Healy went three for three with two doubles, a run and an RBI.

Ed Figueroa Is Hit Hard In Yankees Loss to Rangers

Rangers 7, Yankees 3  (30-24)

Ed Figueroa fell to 7-4 on the season with a rough start in the Yankees loss to the Rangers.  He gave up seven runs (six earned) on ten hits and seven walks with two strikeouts in seven innings.

Bucky Dent drove two of the Yankees’ three runs with a two run homer in the third. Fran Healy went two for four with a double, a run and an RBI.
