Goose Gossage Gives Up Game Winner in Yankees Fourth Straight Loss

by @ 3:16 am. Filed under 1978 Yankees, 1978 Yankees Diary - June, Goose Gossage, Jim Spencer, Willie Randolph

June 6, 1978 at the Kingdome
Mariners 4, Yankees 3  (30-22)

Goose Gossage lost his fifth game of the season and the Yankees lost their fourth straight when he gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth against the Mariners.  It was Gossage’s third inning of work and up until then he had been fantastic.  Even worse, the run was unearned when Willie Randolph threw a bunt attempt away.

Jim Spencer hit a solo shot, his sixth of the season.  Willie Randolph doubled, scored a run and drove in one.
