Mariners Hammer Catfish Hunter In Yankee’s Second Straight Loss

by @ 4:31 am. Filed under 1977 Yankees, 1977 Yankees Diary - May, Catfish Hunter, Thurman Munson

May 12, 1977 at the Kingdome
Mariners 8, Yankees 6  (16-12)

The Yankees lost their second straight game to the Mariners in a game that saw the Yankees make five errors which led to six unearned runs.  Catfish Hunter took it on the chin though and while only two of the seven runs he gave up were earned, he did give up eight hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings.  The errors helped extend his innings but he also didn’t help himself out.

Thurman Munson hit his sixth homerun of the season in the loss.  Chris Chambliss went three for five with a run.
