Mickey Mantle Hits Twelfth Homer In Yankees Loss to Tigers

Tigers 4, Yankees 2  (35-16)

Bobby Shantz had a mediocre start and he fell to 4-3 as the Yankees dropped their series opener to the Tigers.  Shantz gave up four runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Mickey Mantle belted his twelfth homerun of the season to account for one of the Yankees two runs.  Andy Carey went one for three with a walk and he drove in the other run.
