Mickey Mantle had a huge day at the plate as the Yankees held off the Indians to pick up the win in their series opener. Mantle was three for three with a walk, two homers and four RBIs. Andy Carey and Tony Kubek both had three hits and two runs in the win. For Mantle, the two homers brought his season total up to ten.
Bob Turley improved to 9-1 with a rocky but effective outing. He gave up five runs on seven hits and four walks with nine strikeouts in another complete game.
