Mike Torrez Outpitched In Loss to Red Sox

September 21, 1977 at Fenway Park
Red Sox 3, Yankees 2  (93-59)

The Red Sox took their final over the Yankees as once again, the Yankees magic number was stuck at nine.  Mike Torrez threw a decent enough game, he just didn’t get the run support.  He gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in the complete game loss.

Lou Piniella homered and he drove in both Yankees runs.  Reggie Jackson went two for three with a walk, a run and a stolen base.
