Royals Lead Best of Five Game Series 2-1

The Royals took it to Yankees’ starter Mike Torrez in a pivotal game three loss for the Yankees.  With the loss, the Yankees now had to win two straight to advance to the World Series.  Torrez was touched up for five runs on eight hits and two walks with a strikeout in 5 2/3 innings.  Sparky Lyle was also tagged for a run.

The Yankees first run came in the fifth inning when things were still close.  Reggie Jackson led off with a ground out before Chris Chambliss was rung up.  Graig Nettles kept the inning alive with a single and then he scored on a Lou Piniella double to make it 2-1.  Unfortunately, the Royals would score a combined four runs over the next three innings.

The Yankees did put up a run in the ninth but by then it didn’t matter much.  Roy White doubled and then he eventually scored on an error.  The final was 5-2 and the Yankees were now in a must win situation.
