Yankees Lead Best of Seven Game Series 3-1
The Yankees took game four and they gave themselves three chances to take home the World Series and they did it behind the solid arm of Ron Guidry. The lefthander gave up just a pair of runs on only four hits to make his contribution to the Yankees championship hopes.
The Yankees big inning was the second and they actually scored enough runs to win it in just that inning. Reggie Jackson led off with a double and he scored on Lou Piniella’s single. Chris Chamblis then doubled before Piniella scored on Graig Nettles ground out. Bucky Dent then singled home Chambliss to make it 3-0.
The Dodgers answered in the third inning when they finally got to Guidry. Davey Lopes belted a two run homer but that was the extent of the Dodgers scoring in the entire game. The Yankees added a run on a Reggie Jaskon solo homer in the sixth inning but the run proved to be neccesary.
The Yankees had just one more game in Los Angeles but they were hoping it’d be the last of the series. Don Sutton would throw for the Dodgers and the Yankees would have Don Gullett on the mound.
