Ron Guidry Stays Perfect, Strikes Out Eleven in Win Over Athletics

Yankees 3, Athletics 1  (30-18)

Ron Guidry improved to a perfect 8-0 in a game in which he struck out eleven batters.  He gave up just one run on six hits and two walks in 8 1/3 innings.  Goose Gossage got the final two batters out and he picked up his seventh save of the season.

Cliff Johnson singled and drove in a pair of runs in the win.  Lou Piniella was the only Yankees with two hits while Graig Nettles reached base twice with a single and two walks.
