Ron Guidry Strikeouts Out, Improves to 12-0

Yankees 4, Tigers 2  (39-28)

Ron Guidry did it again and he improved to a perfect 12-0 as the Yankees took their series opener over the Tigers.  Guidry gave up two runs on six hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in eight innings.  Goose Gossage pitched a hitless ninth inning and he picked up his tenth save of the season.

Reggie Jackson hit his twelth homer of the season, a solo shot in the ninth inning.  Graig Nettles went two for four with a run.  The Yankees had all four of their runs and five of their nine hits in the ninth inning.
