Sparky Lyle Shuts Down White Sox

Yankees 4, White Sox 1  (18-12)

Jim Beattie and Sparky Lyle combined to shut down the White Sox as the Yankees kicked off a two game series in Chicago.  Beattie improved to 2-0 and he gave up the one run on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.  Sparky Lyle gave up just two hits in 3 2/3 shutout innings and he picked up his sixth save of the season.

The big inning for the Yankees was the fourth in which they scored three of their four runs.  Lou Piniella went three for four with a run and an RBI while Reggie Jackson went two for four with a double and two runs.
