Spud Chandler Hit Hard in Yankees Home Opener

Athletics 6, Yankees 1  (0-1)

The Athletics offense knocked around Spud Chandler to the tune of six runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  A’s leadoff hitter Eddie Joost was particularly rough on Chandler, who tagged him for three hits, two runs and an RBI.

The only Yankees run came in the eighth inning when Yogi Berra drove home George McQuinnPhil Rizzuto had two singles and he was the only Yankee with two hits in the game.
