Thurman Munson had a big day at the plate in the Yankees win in their series opener with the White Sox.  He went two for four with a double, a triple, three RBIs and a run.  Reggie Jackson homered and drove in two runs while Mickey Rivers went four for five with a run and an RBI.

Catfish Hunter was pummelled and he gave up five runs without even getting through the second inning.  Dick Tidrow picked him up though and he gave up just one run in seven relief innings.  Sparky Lyle threw a shutout ninth and he picked up his eighth save of the season.
