The Yankees moved to within a half game of first place with their third straight win, a decisive blowout over the Indians. Ron Guidry improved to a perfect 6-0 with a very impressive start. He gave up just one run on five hits and two walks with eleven strikeouts in the complete game.
Graig Nettles and Chris Chambliss both had nice days at the plate. Nettles went two for four with a double, a homer, three RBIs and two runs while Chambliss went two for four with a homerun, three RBis and two runs. Thurman Munson had a game high three hits, one of which was a double, and he drove in two and scored twice.
