Yankees 5, Red Sox 4 (40-31)
The Yankees won their fourth straigth game despite blowing a three run lead in the ninth. Don Gullett took a 4-1 lead into the top of the ninth and then he gave up three runs as the Red Sox tied it. Fortunately, Paul Blair singled home Roy White in the bottom of the ninth to win it.
Sparky Lyle got just one batter out but it was good enough to pick up the win. Mickey Rivers went three for five with three runs while Thurman Munson had three hits and two RBIs.
