Yankees 7, Blue Jays 5 (3-8)
The Yankees finally ended their skid and beat the expansion Blue Jays. The Yankees scored five runs in the first two innings and held off a late inning surge by the Blue Jays to walk away with the win.
Don Gullett picked up the win and he improved to 1-2. He gave up five runs on nine hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings. Sparky Lyle closed out the game and he picked up his second save of the season.
The top of the lineup got it done at the plate for the Yanks. willie Randolph, Thurman Munson and Reggie Jackson all had at least two hits and they all scored two runs. Randolph hit his first homerun of the season.
