Yankees Held Scoreless In Doubleheader Sweep By Tigers

Tigers 2, Yankees 0  (35-18)

It was the Yankees fourth doubleheader in eight days and it must have been taking it’s toll because the Yankees were completely shut down.  The Yankees managed four hits and all four were singles and they were unable to push a single baserunner across the plate.

A pretty good start by Don Larsen went to waste.  He fell to 5-1 and he gave up two runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in seven innings of work.

It’s bad enough getting swept in a doubleheader but it’s even worse when you can’t manage a single run in either game.  The Yankees dropped their fourth straight to the Tigers and in this finale, they managed just five hits in a shutout loss.  Jerry Lumpe had two of those hits and all five hits were singles.

Bob Turley suffered his second loss of the season and he fell to 10-2.  He gave up three runs on six hits and three walks with nine strikeouts in eight solid frames.
