Tigers 4, Yankees 3  (40-29)

The Yankees managed three runs despite tallying just four hits but it wasn’t enough as they dropped their first game of the series with the Tigers.  Thurman Munson had two of those four hits and Reggie Jackson drove in a run.

Ken Clay gave up three runs but he threw just 1/3 of an inning.  Dick Tidrow took the loss and he fell to 3-5.  He gave up one run on seven hits with a strikeout in 5 2/3 innings.
