April 19, 1978 at Yankee Stadium
Yankees 4, Orioles 3 (4-1)
The Yankees had to rely on their bullpen to get out of a ninth inning jam but they held on to win their third straight game. Bobby Shantz took a shutout into the ninth inning but he gave up two runs and stranded a runner before he got pulled with one out. Bob Grim came in and gave up a walk and a single to make it a one run game before Ryne Duren came in and got rookie Jim Marshall to bounce into a game ending double play. Shantz picked up the win while Duren earned a save.
Gil McDougald had a big day at the plate. He went three for three with a walk, a homerun and two runs. Andy Carey belted a solo homer while Yogi Berra singled twice and scored a run.
