Yankees Lose to Brewers in Ninth Inning

by @ 12:10 pm. Filed under 1977 Yankees, 1977 Yankees Diary - April, Carlos May, Chris Chambliss, Ken Holtzman, Sparky Lyle

April 16, 1977 at County Stadium

Brewers 4, Yankees 3  (2-5)

The Yankees lost a tough one today.  Ken Holtzman took a two run lead into the bottom of the ninth, gave up a run and handed the ball to Sparky Lyle and watched him blow the game.  The two run homerun by Cecil Cooper to tie the game up was bad enough but that wasn’t all Lyle gave up as Steve Brye singled home Sal Bando to win the game with a walk off RBI single.

Chris Chambliss hit a solo homerun and the only Yankee to have more then one hit was Carlos May who went two for four.
