Indians 5, Yankees 4  (19-13)

The Yankees blew an early three run lead as they lost their series opener to the Indians in ten innings.  With two runs in the first and two more in the third, the Yankees had a three run lead after three innings but the Indians scored two in the fourth and then one in the eighth to tie it.  Sparky Lyle then gave up a run on two hits in the bottom of the tenth and he fell to 2-1. Ed Figueroa threw a decent but unspectacular game.  He gave up four runs (three earned) on ten hits and six walks with one strikeout in eight innings.

Roy White went two for four with a walk, an RBI and two runs.  Willie Randolph singled, drew two walks and scored twice in the loss.
