The Yankees suffered their most lopsided loss of the season in the first game of their doubleheader with the Indians.  Johnny Kucks gave up three runs on four hits and he got just one batter out in the first inning before Art Ditmar came into the game.  Ditmar gave up eleven runs in 6 2/3 innings but just five of those were earned because the Yankees made three errors in the contest.

Andy Carey and Bobby Richardson each had three hits in the blowout loss.  Richardson also stole his first base of the season and he scored the lone Yankee run.

Indians 5, Yankees 4  (32-14)

After taking the first two games in their series with the Indians, the Yankees lost two to them in one day as they dropped both games of their doubleheader.  Sal Maglie gave up four runs in three innings in his start but the Yankees came back to tie it up in the fifth.  Unfortunately Johnny Kucks gave up a six inning run that turned out to be the difference in the game.

Enos Slaughter went two for three with a walk, a homerun and two runs.  Mickey Mantle hit a solo shot in the fourth inning, his eleventh homer of the season.
