Yankees Lead Best of Seven Game Series 2-1
The Yankees scored a bunch of runs in the early innings and they got enough to take of the Dodgers in game three of the World Series. And while Mike Torrez had his bad inning, he pitched just well enough to walk away with the win in this one.
The Yankees got off to a nice start when Mickey Rivers led off the game with a double. He moved to third on Willie Randolph’s ground out and then Thurman Munson doubled home Rivers. Reggie Jackson singled home Munson for the second run of the game and he moved to second on an error. Then Lou Piniella singled home Jackson to make it 3-0 before the Dodgers even had a hitter come to the plate.
Mike Torrez then ran into trouble in the third inning and he gave up a three run blast to Dusty Baker to tie the game up. The Yankees didn’t waste time in answering though and Mickey Rivers drove home a run in the fourth on a ground out. Chris Chambliss singled home a run in the fifth to give the Yankees some insurance but Mike Torrez calmed down after the three run thrd and threw a nice game the rest of the way.
Torrez went the distance and if you take out the three hit, three run third inning, he gave up just four hits in eight shutouts innings the rest of the time. The Yankees could put another nail in the Dodgers coffin tomorrow and they had Ron Guidry on the mound to hopefully get it done.
