Yankees Score Four In the Seventh To Top Red Sox

by @ 5:52 am. Filed under 1977 Yankees, Graig Nettles, Mickey Rivers, Carlos May, Dick Tidrow, Ken Holtzman, Bucky Dent, 1977 Yankees Diary - May

May 24,  1977 at Yankee Stadium
Yankees 6, Red Sox 5  (22-18)

The Yankees scored four runs in the seventh inning and they needed everyone of them as they edged the Red Sox in a one run game.  Graig Nettles and Carlos May hit solo homeruns in the seventh but you had a nice team effort.  All six runs were driven in by different Yankees and the only Yanks with two runs was Mickey Rivers and Buck Dent.

Ken Holtzman left the game in the fourth inning after a rough start but the pen and hitters picked him up in this one.  Dick Tidrow did a very nice job out of the pen though and he improved to 3-2 on the season.  He gave up one run on three hits and two walks with one strikeout in 5 1/3 innings.
