Yankees Struggle With Just Four Hits In Loss to Athletics

Athletics 5, Yankees 1  (30-19)

The Yankees hitters were held in check again as they managed just a single run on four hits in a loss to Oakland.  Jim Spencer doubled and drove in the lone run while Graig Nettles singled and scored.

Andy Messersmith fell to 0-1 on the season with a rough start.  He gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts in five innings.  The loss dropped him to 0-1 on the season.
