The Yankees ensured at least a split of their four game series with the Jays as they took the first game of their sunday doubleheader behind a nice outing by Ed Figueroa.  He gave up just one run on eight hits with a walk and a strikeout in eight frames.  The win improved his record to 5-1.  Goose Gossage got the final two batters out and he earned his sixth save of the season.

Cliff Johnson had the big hit of the game.  His two run blast in the second inning gave the Yankees all the runs they’d need to win this one.

The Yankees finished up their doubleheader sweep over the Blue Jays behind a monster game by Thurman Munson.  The catcher went three for five with a double, his first homer of the season and four RBIs.  Chris Chambliss went three for five with a double and a run.

Ken Clay threw a nice game and he picked up his first win of the season.  He gave up just one unearned run on eight hits with three strikeouts in seven innings.
